Course Information

This course is for you if you want to understand quantum mechanics for yourself, rather than listening to people's vague analogies. It can be hard to learn the subject on your own. Most quantum textbooks bog you down with loads of math prerequisites and long, dry calculations that feel pointless.

Instead, this is a 4-week introduction that gives you just the essential calculations you need to start exploring quantum mechanics. I want to give you the tools to think critically about what quantum mechanics really means. There will be calculations, but there's very little assumed knowledge, so all backgrounds are welcome!

The idea behind this course is that people learn best by doing. There is homework for each week of the course, and I highly encourage you to attempt the problems before looking at the solutions!

Here's the structure of the course each week:

📝 Attempt the homework, even though some of the questions are hard

🍎 Compare the solutions to your own work

Week 1

Learn how the rules of quantum mechanics and how they apply to the polarization of light.

Week 2

Learn the concept of spin and what "qubits" are.

Week 3

Learn the mathematics of entanglement.

Week 4

Learn about how to describe the position of a particle. Also explore fascinating topics in quantum mechanics like decoherence, quantum teleportation, and quantum computing.
